What is Probate?

'Probate' is the term used to describe the process of dealing with someone's estate after their passing. It involves gathering in all of the person's assets which include, their finances, property and personal belongings, settling debts and paying any taxes due and then ensuring the remaining estate is distributed in accordance with the wishes of the deceased.

Probate typically can take 9-12 months to settle an estate. However, it can sometimes take longer if, for example, there is a property to sell, complex Inheritance, Income or Capital Gains Tax affairs to resolve or there are complications regarding the personal representatives or beneficiaries of the estate.

Our standard fee in these matters are £300 plus vat equating to £360 per hour. Disbursements and Third Party Costs (if applicable) are additional.
